The Higher Education Diploma of Business aims to offer students the opportunity to gain a solid foundation in essential business knowledge and skills. Enhancing the employability prospects of students is the inclusion of a careers preparedness unit.
The Diploma includes 8 business units covering essential business knowledge areas of management, accounting, economics, commercial law, marketing, business information technology, communications and statistics. The 9th unit is the careers preparedness unit. The unit is undertaken in the second semester and will provide exposure to, and opportunities to practice essential job readiness skills including cover letter and resume writing, interview techniques, skills and abilities identification.
Upon completion of the Diploma students will be job ready and confident of their abilities when seeking employment. The course also prepares students for potential further study. Successful completion of the course will facilitate entry into the second year of a CIC Business degree, for instance, the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or the Bachelor of Business(Management).
Students may take advantage of the Study Skills Program offered at CIC. Typical skills targeted include academic and report writing, computer literacy and time management skills. The aim of the study skills program is to support students to achieve successful course progression. Students who are interested in further studies will also benefit from participating in this program.
A comprehensive portfolio of English language courses including Business and Academic English are offered by the CIC English language centre. Students seeking additional support with English language comprehension will benefit from taking advantage of the English language support offered by CIC including the targeted English EXTRAs program.
Upon successful completion of the course, students are awarded the Diploma of Business.
Applicants may be able to shorten the length of the course through qualifications obtained from formal studies, work or life experience. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other registered training organisations and education providers are recognised by Cambridge International College. Students who wish to apply for Advanced Standing should contact the College for information on eligibility.
Assessment includes a final examination for each unit of study and a combination of tests, essays, case studies, reports, presentations and tutorial participation, as per the assessment requirements of the unit of study undertaken. Tutorial participation is an important component of the course and full participation is expected.
Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Business students will have gained valuable foundation business knowledge and skills and will be ready to apply this in a wide range of business-orientation positions within the private and public sectors. Typically this may include employment as an administrative officer; client accounts officer, bookeeper or marketing assistant within a wide range of local and state government organizations and private businesses.
Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Business (Higher Education) will be eligible for entry into the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Business offered at CIC.
Students who have completed the Diploma of Business at Cambridge International College will be granted entry and could be eligible for advanced standing of up to 8 units (120 credits) towards the Bachelor of Business at Edith Cowan University.
Diploma of Business graduates will also be able to apply for consideration of admission into the 2nd year of a Bachelor of Business at other Higher Education providers and Australian Universities.
