Designed to suit students with a variety of study requirements, these programs include General English which has five different classes tailered for students in different English Proficientcy Levels from Elementary through to Advanced. Skills learned and enhanced in the General English Program lay solid foundations for further progression to our more specialised English language courses including English for Academic Purpose (EAP1) & (EAP2), IELTS Preparation, Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and the Cambridge University exam preparation courses; the First Certificate in English (FCE) and the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE).
Mode of Delivery
All of the full time courses include 20 classroom contact hours per week PLUS up to 5 extra hours FREE. These EXTRA classes comprise hour long sessions in areas such as Pronunciation, Grammar, Listening and Discussion and are designed for specific levels. In addition, there are FREE tutorials enabling students to study one-to-one with their teacher or in very small groups.
Entry to the English Programs
During Orientation, students are tested for proficiency in the broad skill areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar and are placed in the appropriate level. All English programs other than General English require a sufficient level of English proficiency for entry. Students may contact the college or their representative if they wish to take an English placement test prior to arrival. Note however, that all students are tested upon arrival to confirm their English language level.
At the end of the 5 week study blocks, students are progress tested and then attend an interview with their teacher to discuss how to further develop their strengths and improve any weaker areas. Students are promoted to the next level on the basis of their successful particpation in class and their satisfactory achievement of required assessment tasks.
Fully qualified, experienced and dedicated, CIC's teachers deliver well prepared and stimulating lessons at all levels. All teachers have a bachelor level qualification and a recognised TESOL qualification as a minimum. This ensures that students receive the very best in English language teaching. CIC's English teachers demonstrate great enthusiasm and a high level of care for their students adding further to the quality of the experience of CIC students.
